Australia’s Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history when the Kolkata Knight Riders offered Rs 24.75 crore on Tuesday to acquire his services. Australia skipper Pat Cummins, who was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore, held the previous record, which was eclipsed by Starc. With players stealing the largest sums of money, the IPL is the biggest commercial event in cricket. Owners and team representatives compete in the auction room by placing bids on players they think would help them win the most. Several times, the IPL‘s top ten most expensive players have been made public.

Mitchell Star

After being acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a record-breaking 24.75 crore, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc became the highest-paid player in the Indian Premier League. Starc debuted in the IPL 2024 after finishing his career in the league in 2015. After reaching agreements with the Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, and Mumbai Indians, KKR was able to seal the transaction. Starc took 34 wickets in 27 matches at the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. The team is anticipated to benefit greatly from the acquisition.

Pat Cummins

The first player in the Indian Premier League to reach 20 crore is Pat Cummins, an Australian fast bowler. After a competitive bidding match between SunRisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Chennai Super Kings, SunRisers Hyderabad won the player for Rs 20.50 crore. Cummins became the second-most expensive player in IPL history with the acquisition. To concentrate on his international cricket responsibilities, Cummins took a break from the IPL last season. He went on to lead Australia to the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. Whether Cummins will unseat Aiden Markram as the SRH captain is still to be determined.

Sam Curran

The English all-rounder Sam Curran, who the Punjab Kings purchased for Rs. 18.5 crores in the IPL 2023 auction, is now the most expensive player in IPL history. Curran became a sought-after player following his outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup when he won Player of the Tournament. He is a full package because of his explosive hitting lower in the order, speed changes, and new ball-swinging abilities. The former record-holder, Chris Morris, has now been overtaken.

Cameron Green

Cameron Green is now the second most expensive player in the Indian Premier League after the Mumbai Indians committed Rs 17.50 crore to him. The Australian witnessed a price increase to almost Rs 7 crores after entering the bidding battle with a starting price of Rs 2 crore. He is now one of the players in the IPL 2023 to watch because of this. Tall and intimidating, Green is an all-rounder who might be a major force in the game going forward. His ability to swing the new ball and his strong hitting makes him a terror for opposing teams.

Ben Stokes

At the IPL 2023 Auction, Ben Stokes was acquired by Chennai Super Kings, making him the third-most expensive acquisition in IPL history. There was competition for Stokes from RCB, RR, LSG, SRH, and CSK, with bidding starting at INR 2 crore. Stokes was acquired by the MS Dhoni-led franchise for INR 16.25 crore, which is the third-highest combined price in IPL history. Strong hitter and swing bowler Stokes is renowned for his leadership abilities, experience, and capacity to step up to the plate in crucial games.

Chris Morris

By shattering Yuvraj Singh’s six-year record as the most expensive player in IPL history, the Rajasthan Royals made history. If RR pays that price, RR will be expecting a lot from him.

All-arounder Chris Morris of South Africa made history in the IPL by being the most expensive player at the 2021 auction, selling to Rajasthan Royals for an incredible Rs. 16.25 crore. Morris’s price tag may have raised some eyebrows, but his power-hitting and ability to bowl quickly made him a useful asset. He also picked up important wickets in the last overs.

Nicholas Pooran

At the IPL 2023 auction, the Lucknow Super Giants created history when they paid Rs 16 crore to get Nicholas Pooran, the most expensive wicketkeeper-batter in the West Indies. The price skyrocketed past Rs. 6 crores, although the bidding process started with Chennai Super Kings at Rs. 2 crores. After placing an initial offer of Rs. 7.25 crore and paying more than Rs. 10 crore for the player, Lucknow emerged victorious. Pooran became the fourth most expensive player in IPL 2023 and the fifth most expensive player in IPL history when Lucknow bought him after the Caps pulled out of the bidding battle.

Yuvraj Singh

After Ben Stokes, Yuvraj Singh is the only other player to be in the top 10 list twice. He is presently ranked sixth on the rankings. He seldom lasted on one team for very long, and if he went up for auction, a player of his calibre would always fetch a high price.

The record for the most expensive player was held for a considerable amount of time by the Indian batting star Yuvraj Singh. He was purchased for Rs. 16 crore by the Delhi Daredevils (formerly the Delhi Capitals) in the 2015 auction. Yuvraj’s powerful batting and big-mixing skills made him a fan favourite and justified his high price.
