John Ford

American cinema director John Ford, who was born in 1894, gained prominence for his Westerns. He won six Oscars for his direction of more than 140 pictures, the majority of which were silent. Wide perspectives and settings were common in Ford’s films, placing characters against abrasive natural surroundings. For his work on ‘The Informer’, ‘The Grapes of Wrath’, ‘How Green Was My Valley’, and ‘The Quiet Man’, he was awarded four Oscars for Best Director. For ‘How Green Was My Valley’ and ‘The Quiet Man’, he also received Best Picture awards.

Billy Wilder

Billy Wilder, a multifaceted and significant personality in Classic Hollywood films, was an Austrian-American filmmaker, writer, and producer. He received his first Oscar nomination for Best Director for his work in the crime noir picture Double Indemnity, for which he was born in 1906. Six of the 21 Academy Awards that Wilder received went to Best Director. ‘The Apartment’ in 1961, ‘Sunset Boulevard’ in 1951, and ‘The Lost Weekend’ in 1945 were his three most famous motion pictures. He has won several honours.

Francis Ford Coppola

Five Oscars have been bestowed upon the renowned American film director, screenwriter, and producer Francis Ford Coppola. 1963’s Dementia 13 was his feature picture debut. Among his best-known creations are Patton (1970) and the Godfather trilogy (1972–1990). Nine Oscars were given out for acting, screenplay, and directing in the first two Godfather films. In 1971, Coppola won her first Academy Award for Patton’s Best Original Screenplay. For The Godfather Part II, he took home three Oscars in 1975: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Steven Spielberg

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1946, Steven Spielberg is an American producer, director, and screenwriter. He started in the New Hollywood era and has worked his way up to become one of the world’s richest directors. He has directed several highly regarded pictures since Jaws debuted in 1975. Spielberg has won several accolades, including three Oscars—his first coming from Schindler’s List in 1994. In addition, he took home two Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director. He was the 1999 Oscar winner for Best Director for Saving Private Ryan.

James Cameron

James Cameron is a Canadian filmmaker, editor, screenwriter, and producer of motion pictures. He is renowned for reviving the science fiction genre with films like The Terminator and Aliens. For his work on the 1998 picture Titanic, he won three Oscars: Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Best Picture. The long-lasting popularity of Cameron’s films can be attributed to his creative approach to filming.

Frank Capra

American screenwriter, producer, and director Frank Capra was a prominent player in the 1930s motion picture business. He was born in Italy. He was well-known for his Oscar-winning pictures, including 1934’s It Happened One Night, which took home five major awards. In addition, Capra made the films Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936), You Can’t Take It with You (1938), and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939). He received three Oscars after being nominated six times for Best Director. In 1991, Capra died.

Clint Eastwood

American actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood Jr. was born in 1930 and has over 60 years of experience in television and movies. His performance in the 1966 motion picture The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly brought him widespread recognition. Eastwood has won four Oscars and directed several critically acclaimed films. He was the recipient of two Academy Awards in 1993 for Best Picture and Best Director for Unforgiven, and two more in 2005 for Best Picture and Best Director for Million Dollar Baby.

Ang Lee

Born in Pingtung County, South Taiwan, in 1954, Ang Lee is a well-known Taiwanese director best known for his 2012 film Life of Pi, which took home four Oscars and eleven nominations. In addition, he helmed two more Academy Award-winning films, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) and Brokeback Mountain (2005). Sense and Sensibility, Lee’s 1995 breakthrough English-language picture, was praised by critics and won several accolades. In 2005, he became the first non-white director to receive the Best Director Academy Award.

Peter Jackson

Screenwriter, director, and producer Peter Jackson of New Zealand is well-known for his inventive and popular movies. He started his career in New Zealand with horror comedy. He was born in 1961. Jackson’s contributions to the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogy are his most well-known works. In 2004, he won three Oscars for Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Adapted Screenplay. He was the first person to helm three major feature films concurrently.

William Wyler

Swiss-German-American producer and director William Wyler was a well-known, adaptable director most recognised for his classic Hollywood productions. He worked in both the sound and silent eras and received three Oscars for Best Director. Both technicolour and black-and-white films were directed by Wyler, who is well-known for creating memorable works such as Ben-Hur, The Best Years of Our Lives, and Mrs. Miniver, which all took home Best Picture Oscars, with Wyler taking home Best Director honours for all three.
